Overview
Nestled along the banks of the River Mersey, the Assembly District is a bold vision for a new civic and cultural hub in North Liverpool. This project explores the creation of a Northern England regional assembly, a space designed to represent the UK's core cities and towns while anchoring a renewed connection to Liverpool’s historic waterfront.
The visuals showcase a district defined by its riverfront location, integrating the security and accessibility of quayside infrastructure with a dynamic, modern urban landscape. Beyond its civic role, the Assembly District acts as a catalyst for regeneration, breathing new life into Liverpool’s Northern Docks and the Ten Streets area, linking past industrial heritage with future civic ambition.
A key feature of the design is a new, iconic metro station at Ten Streets, seamlessly connecting the district to the Liverpool City Region’s Northern Line. This transport hub ensures the Assembly District is not only visually striking but also highly accessible, supporting the broader goal of revitalizing Liverpool’s northern quarter.

Design Aesthetic
The Assembly District’s design draws directly from Liverpool’s industrial character. Brick façades, robust masonry, and the historic dockside vernacular are reinterpreted in a contemporary language, creating buildings that feel both grounded in local history and confidently forward-looking.
Public spaces, civic buildings, and transport hubs are articulated with strong geometric forms, bold lines, and thoughtful material contrasts, reflecting the authority and gravitas of a regional assembly. The aim is to establish a modern centre of northern politics that commands presence without losing connection to the city’s industrial roots.
By balancing Liverpool’s historic textures with contemporary architectural clarity, the district becomes a space that is visually impactful, culturally resonant, and immediately legible as a civic heart for the region.
